Means to hit hard, to thrash (as in 'Moowa patta gahanna one karapu wadeta' (මූව පට්ට ගහන්න ඕනෙ කරපු වැඩේට) means 'This one has to be thrashed for that work') or to abuse (as in 'Oya anduma dan sathiyakma patta gahala thiyenne' (ඔය ඇඳුම දැන් සතියක්ම පට්ට ගහල තියෙන්නෙ)).
